Dream It, Write It: Using Your Dreams for Your Writing
4 60-minute online sessions
Coming this fall
Instructor: Lisa Lenard Cook
Description
If you've ever had a character run away with your story, you already know the potential dreams hold for your writing. In this groundbreaking writing class, Lisa Lenard-Cook reveals how you can unravel the secret language of your dreams and translate it for your writing.
Course Outline and Schedule
Writing sessions will occur for four consecutive Saturdays, beginning July 11, 2009. All sessions are held at 9 a.m. PST. Classes will be recorded for those who are unable to attend. Because the material in this class is virgin territory, there won't be private sessions.
* GROUP SESSION ONE: The Dreaming-Writing Connection
Dreams are more than internal films we watch at night--they're creative conduits we can use for our writing. In this week, you'll learn about how your dreams talk to you, as well as the connection between your sleeping dreams and the state of mind that occurs when your writing is going well.
* GROUP SESSION TWO: Your Dream Notebook
Creating and using a dream notebook is just the first step in exploring our dreams for our writing. But it's an important first step, so this week, you'll learn how to move beyond mere recording to interpreting and speculating about how your dreams are trying to help in your writing.
* GROUP SESSION THREE: Control Your Dreams, Control Your Writing
Lucid dreaming--controlling your dreams--isn't the stuff of science fiction, but rather a scientifically studied method for taking dreams to the next level. This week, you'll learn, first, how to signal yourself while you're asleep so that you can actively participate in your dreams while still in the dream-state, and second, how to apply this same freedom/control to your writing.
* GROUP SESSION FOUR: Make Your Own Magic
In this final class, you'll discover how you can take dreams and writing to the next level by generating specific dream exercises of your own, whether to solve problems in your writing, jump-start it, or discover what's next in the magical world of your own imagination.
